(Full Permissions Pending)

MEROC Invites you to run on a new map of the Formby Sandunes. Members of the Club have been working over the last number of years to update the maps along the entire Sefton Coast. This has opened up access to new areas to the North of Formby, which with negotiation from local landowners has allowed us to put on small events on some previously unused areas. The final part of this update has been an entire re-draw of the Formby map based upon a new plot.

As one of the finest areas of Technical Sandunes in the Country, runners shoud not be disappointed.

Organisers: Matthew Cochrane & Paul Bolton.
Planners:  Graham Nielsen & David Bolton.

Full Details Soon.

               Litherland training night a success.

The first 2 weekly nights at Litherland Sports Centre have passed and have successfully attract new Orienteers into the sport. I attended the first club night last week as a representative of the parent club. However due to a clash with club's comittee meeting, was unable to attend the second. We understand however that it was succesful and next week the community club will be branching out into a Local Park.

A new area of the website is under construction for the community club and will be available to all shortly.

               Meroc Invited to join Sport England, 'Participation Projects'

As a part of the Sport England funding initiative, British Orienteering have announced that MEROC have been invited to join the ‘Participation Projects’ for 2009.  Benefits to the club include the support of Steve Vernon the Northern Participation Manager during 2010:

Other Clubs are:

North
* Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteering Club
* Leicestershire Orienteering Club
* Merseyside Orienteering Club

South
* Hertfordshire Orienteering Club
* North Gloucestershire Orienteering Club
* West Anglian Orienteering Club

The Participation Managers, with the support of the Regional Development Officers, have the resources to work with up to 5 clubs each while also providing support to other clubs that are working towards setting up a weekly club night.  This is in addition to maintaining a close link with the ‘Club and Coach’ projects in West Anglia, Yorkshire, and Lancashire.

The Participation Managers will be working with the ‘Participation Clubs’ to establish a more regular training/meeting venue and deliver more frequent local orienteering activities that cater for both the accomplished orienteer and newcomers to the sport. In addition to increasing participation, Steve and Richard also aim to assist clubs in their volunteer recruitment and development.
